The story behind Homage to a legend

This artwork is my homage to Carlos Santana. He inspired generations of artists worldwide with his music for over 5 decades.
In 2019, the self-titled debut LP „Santana“ celebrates its 50th birthday. The design of this legendary black & white cover is already a piece of art in itself. Over the years and decades, many very creatively designed record covers followed. The most of them always reflected the universal power of Santana’s music.

In the center of my version, you will find the lion, he is a colorful, modern and contemporary interpretation of the lion on the cover of the debut album Santanas. On the whole you will find many, sometimes very obvious, often a bit hidden, references to different epochs of the artistic creation of this great idol of many generations. The Aztec calendar not only symbolically expresses the timelessness of his music, but is at the same time an indication of the origin of the musician.
